Ransomware strikes again! Over the Holidays, Los Angeles Valley College was hit with a ransomware attack. This attack forced the California Community College to pay the unknown hacker nearly $28,000 to retrieve stolen data. This virus locked the school out of the computer network, email, and voicemail systems. The hacker offered a key to unlock them in exchange for a ransomware payment.

The school stated that after the desired amount was paid the school did receive their code to regain access.  Although the attack made the information inaccessible, they did not detect any data breaches.

Ransomware is a serious and threatening action against companies, hospitals, schools and numerous organizations. Attacks like these occur very frequently and quickly. Don't be a victim to Ransomware and plan ahead with backup devices!
