### Microsoft will end extended support for Windows 7 on January 14, 2020.

If your organization is still using Windows 7 as its main operating system, or if it is using the Windows 7 based Windows Server 2008 R2, it’s time to start preparing to migrate. [Windows 7 End of Life](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4057281/windows-7-support-will-end-on-january-14-2020) means no more security or operating system updates from Microsoft, leaving an opening for hackers.

### **How can your organization avoid these security vulnerabilities?**

An audit of your technology assets will need to be completed to determine if there are Windows 7 devices and how many. The audit will determine how many devices your organization has that need to be upgraded to meet minimum hardware specifications to run [Windows 10](https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/features). Another thing to verify during the audit is that your organization has enough licenses for an upgrade to Windows 10.

### **What are Microsoft’s basic requirements for installing Windows 10?**

- **Processor:** 1GHz or faster processor OR System on a Chip (SoC)
- **RAM:** 1GB for 32-bit OR 2GB for 64-bit
- **Hard Drive Space:** 16GB for 32-bit OS OR 32GB for 64-bit OS
- **Graphics Card:** DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver
- **Display:** 800x600px

If you find that your devices do not meet minimum specifications for an upgrade, we can provide recommendations for replacement of devices. [Contact us](https://www.getpeerless.com/about/company/contact-us) today to learn more.

### **The main priority with the Windows 10 upgrade is to minimize security vulnerabilities and help your organization avoid major downtime.**
