Apple Falls Victim To Ransomware Attack!

APPLE IS HACKED!

A group of hackers called "The Turkish Crime Family" set out a warning to Apple that if they don't receive $75,000 in bitcoin by April 7, 2017, they will reset passwords on all iCloud accounts they have access to.  The hackers allegedly uploaded a video to YouTube that shows them logging into iCloud accounts using the stolen credentials they obtained.

The "Turkish Crime Family" stated that they have access to over 300 million accounts and they also warn of remotely wiping iPhones if they don't receive the payment.  The hackers also stated that they will settle for $100,000 in iTune gift cards.

A member of the Turkish Crime Family told the publication "I just want my money and thought this would be an interesting report that a lot of Apple customers would be interested in reading and hearing."

WHAT IS BITCOIN?

Unlike credit card networks like Visa and payment processors like Paypal, bitcoin is not owned by an individual or company. Bitcoin is the world’s first completely open payment network which anyone with an internet connection can participate in. Bitcoin was designed to be used on the internet, and doesn’t depend on banks or private companies to process transactions. Bitcoins aren't printed, like dollars or euros.  It is decentralized peer-to-peer payment network that is powered by its users with no central authority or middlemen.  This is a common form of transaction that is used by Ransomware hackers.

"The alleged list of email addresses and passwords appears to have been obtained from previously compromised third-party services," Apple said in a statement.  Apple is now working with law enforcement to try and identify the "The Turkish Crime Family" hackers.
